In the presence of the French Consul, the Linguistics Center at Alnoor University participated in an intellectual and cultural workshop at the French Cultural Institute
A thought-provoking workshop was held at the French–Iraqi Cultural Institute under the supervision of Professor Dr. Mohammed Basil Alazzawi, Director of the Linguistics Center at Alnoor University, entitled: “Lawrence of Arabia and Charles de Foucauld: Myth and Reality in the Arab Mashreq and Maghreb.
The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Haseeb Elias Hadeed and Assistant Professor Dr. Mohammed Zuhair Zaidan, faculty members of the Department of Translation, College of Arts, Alnoor University The presenters offered a critical analysis of the mythical and historical dimensions of the figures of Lawrence of Arabia and Charles de Foucauld , highlighting their impact on Orientalist discourse as well as on the cultural and political contexts of both the Arab Mashreq and Maghreb.
The workshop was attended by the French Consul in Mosul, Mr. Fabrice Debliesion in addition to a select group of academics, researchers, and intellectual and cultural specialists, who enriched the session with valuable scholarly discussions and interventions.
At the conclusion of the workshop, emphasis was placed on the importance of organizing such scientific and intellectual events in promoting academic and critical dialogue and in opening new cognitive horizons for understanding history and its mutual cultural representations between East and West.
